Peace… Love… and Justice! You got your rights in your hand In this world what you don’t understand Is why so many people complain Then you’ll know when you feel their pain And if you don’t watch out Don’t forget that it could be you! El Salvador, Central America! There is no dancing in the streets The only dancing’s to the beat of gunfire But when you’re there in the streets The only sound is the sound of gunfire And if you don’t watch out Don’t forget it could be you! Chile, South America! See Augusto Pinochet, and when you’re there you can bet That when the CIA is near That’s when people show their fear And if you don’t watch out Don’t forget it could be you! Peace… Love… and Justice! when your rights aren’t there you can bet That is when the CIA is near That’s when people show their fear And if you don’t watch out Don’t forget it could be you!

New Battle 02:59
It’s a matter of opinion But who’s opinion really counts Ain’t nobody gonna tear Ain’t nobody gonna tear us down We got a new battle We got a new regime A non-violent army, A fight for peace Armed with a mind of your own Armed with a heart not made of stone Nobody said it’s gonna be easy We can’t use violence to get anything done We got the bomb we got no choice no more It’s either non-violence or blow this place to kingdom come We got a new battle We got a new regime A non-violent army, A fight for peace Armed with a mind of your own Armed with a heart not made of stone If you know what life is for Then you know that peace is war Because martin luther king did Mahatma Gandhi did Because of jesus Christ He died of love And he paid the price Of a new battle A new regime non-violent army, A fight for peace Armed with a mind of your own Armed with a heart not made of stone

Let's not quarrel, let's not fight Let's get together, we all can unite Then take off these chains from off our feet 'Cause we gonna walk, we gonna walk, walk down freedom street Everybody knows we gonna walk, we gonna walk Walk, walk, walk, down freedom street Let me tell you people United we stand, divided we fall Respect your brothers, sisters and all Let's not deal with illiteracy, work it out intelligently Lord, Lord, 'cause we gonna walk, we gonna walk Walk, walk, walk, down freedom street Everybody knows we gonna walk, we gonna walk Walk, walk, walk, down freedom street, dear, God Can't see clearly 'cause I worked hard last night It must be a vision 'cause there's no change in sight I see a big, big street, where all hands meet It must be freedom street, oh Lord, freedom street Everybody knows we gonna walk, we gonna walk Walk, walk, walk, down freedom street Everybody knows we gonna talk in the whole wide world As we go walkin' slowly

Age Bomb 03:49
I see the picture of middle-aged man double-edged smile shows through the tan ideals shattered by the dreaded age bomb political renaissance ended with Viet Nam And if you think that I will sell out, let me tell you that you think in vain It's a match of my integrity, against the conforms of society The lofty ideals we have in youth we use in search of the absolute truth when we don't find them, our soul despairs and we go crawling to conservative airs If you decide against working for a future you just conform to that societal structure Life is viewed through a cloud of money you want to be one of the few to taste the honey If I'm the first to go to the wall straight I will stand until I fall When I'm on the ground, I still won't crawl I'll still be hoping for the might to fall

Seeing in the Dark This is to you white-bred world! Look out your window And what do you see? Let me tell you brother and sister it’s not misery And what of the man in the ghetto What does he see? A cold compress in the face And a bullet he gets for free And what of the man in South Africa? Not all that glitters is diamonds and gold But you don’t care you’re sold Because you have got your gold And what of the man who’s missing What does he see? A cold dark room in a prison And death by Uzi You don’t know the power of a dictator But you believe what you read Because when you talk of freedom You’ve never seen a dissident bleed And what of those faraway lands Who’s peoples’ only hope Is to eat just one more day and Maybe have more hope And what of the man in the ghetto What does he see? Let me tell you brother and sister it is misery

Soul Brother 03:41
Soul Brother Now here we are You got your guitar The pain in your head Somebody cut your bed I’m your soul brother I’m your soul sister I’m your soul brother I’m your soul sister Well you got what you wanted And you’re really looking fine You can’t have me for money You can’t have me for time I’m your soul brother I’m your soul sister I’m your soul brother I’m your soul sister Your brothers and sisters can’t hide You better let your conscious be your guide And it’s too hard to tell What it’s like in hell I’m your soul brother I’m your soul sister I’m your soul brother I’m your soul sister I’m your soul brother I’m your soul sister I’m your soul brother I’m your soul sister

Street Music 02:18
Street Music Martin Luther King was right on track When he said you should be proud to be Black But I’m a white boy as white as snow And about being black I don’t know All I know is that we are brothers It may sound stupid but we should love one another The music that we hear on the street Is the music to which today’s rebels beat Sound that makes us shuffle our feet Rappers’ poetry gets us off our seat No Russians seen, no children screams The New York Scene, multicorporate teams The president says America is back: Iran-gate, Contra-gate, yeah, we’re right on track I can see the youth fighting back Listen now before the record companies attack Let me point out now where our guns are aimed: In regions of the world the CIA has not yet tamed! You’ve heard of South Africa everybody knows Left or Right you know what Afghanistan shows But do you know of the Fall of Allende? Do you know what is on the agenda? So maybe we’re “Leeching” off this sound Listen now before the missiles leave the ground! The music that we hear on the street Is the music to which today’s rebels beat Sound that makes us shuffle our feet Rappers’ poetry gets us off our seat No Russians seen, no children scream The New York Scene, multicorporate team

The Storm 03:22
The Storm People: the future is up to you There’s only one thing to do You’ve got to stand above the slights Try to live for others rights Sisters: the time to act is Now! Don’t give in any how You’ve got to see and support each other Get our support–that’s of your brother Brother: don’t fire up the cross Don’t feel that sense of loss You’ve got to let go of resentment Lose your hatred for them When the rain comes down what you gonna do? Take shelter or run on through There is a storm in our world So what you gonna do Hide your head in the sand Or fight on through Politician Man: give up what you hold so dear All your people live in fear You’ve got to see what you can provide Only you can decide Artists: Show the world that you care– Don’t just live unaware You’ve got see where you can bring light See what you can bring to the fight People: the world is here for you Make the most of what you do You’ve got to take a stand Do it while you can

Stand up for your rights, stand up!Stand up for your rights, stand up!

about

This is the last testament and document of The Leeches. In late 1987/early 1988, we recorded all the current songs we were doing in our repertoire. These songs were recorded in our rehearsal studio straight off the soundboard mix into a Super VHS HiFi deck. Some of these were minimally mastered with some analog EQ and compression, and then copied to 1/2-track reel-to-reel, and cassette tape.

The reel tape suffers from sticky shred syndrome, and had to be baked to get the recording, however that resulted in losing audio information. The cassette, while still sounding decent, was just a cassette. Using various digital tools, I was able to recapture most of the original sound.

Listening in retrospect, I didn't realize how much into reggae and ska we were.

Downloads are in 24-bit/96k or 24-bit/48k FLAC if you have the capability to download and play at that quality. You can down-res automatically in Bandcamp, though.

about

The Leeches Chicago, Illinois

Taking an axe to the era of the moral majority, greed, and reagan, The Leeches grooved and riffed with the sounds of the street: rappers poetry got them off their seats, rebels shuffled to their 4/4 beats.
